Consistency is a word thats thrown around at the moment, and it’s one that conjures up all kinds of thoughts. We’re talking today about the power of consistency when it comes to personal branding, and that means a few different things:

1 – Consistency of showing up.

2 – Consistency of brand image/messaging.

3 – Consistency of tone of voice.

Consistency of showing up:

Building a personal brand is a marathon, not a sprint, and it’s crucial to make your efforts manageable for long-term success. There is no point in starting your personal brand and posting on every platform, and creating every kind of content and posting 5 times per day, if you’re a team of one! You will soon reach burn out, and you’ll stop being consistent in showing up for your personal brand.

Being consistent when showing up needs to be what works for you, if you can commit to 3 posts per week on 2 social media platforms and then one or two in person networking events each month, then commit to that and no more. Use a scheduling tool to help create your content in advance, so you’re not posting as you go and then you get too busy to post.

As you grow, and the opportunities you attract grow, you’ll earn more money to invest in your personal brand. At the point when you’re ready to invest, speak to a personal branding agency like ours who can then help you share more content, on more platforms, without sacrificing your current business/job or life.

Consistency of brand image/messaging:

The whole purpose of your personal brand is to get people to the point where they know, like and trust you. To gain their trust they must understand you and your mission/vision. People need to see and read a consistency in your imagery and messaging. Hearing/seeing something once does not make it memorable, you need to repeat your messaging as you go. Repeating your core message so it resonates and becomes recognisable to your audience.

When people see an image of you, or a graphic you’ve shared would they recognise in an instant that it’s come from you? People pick up messaging in lot’s of different ways, through text, images, colours, fonts etc. There needs to be consistency with all of the things you share. The consistency of visuals, ensure that your brand identity is clear and cohesive across all platforms.

Consistency of tone of voice:

Finally, your tone of voice is unique to you. How you word things, say things, explain things will be different to anyone else on the planet. People can easily tell that a piece of content has been written by myself, because I have a very specific tone of voice to my writing. My writing isn’t perfectly polished, I’ll often say something how it is, it might not be grammatically correct and may even have spelling mistakes in it, my content reads as if I’m talking to a friend, not in a business or professional manor.

The more someone reads my content, hears me speak and interacts with me, over time they’ll get a great understanding of my tone of voice and recognise it in an instant. And as long as you don’t ask AI to write word for word everything you’re wanting to post, so will yours.

These three pillars to consistency are crucial for your personal brands success. In personal branding you’re not wanting to blend in, you’re wanting to stand out, to be easily recognised. You want people to get to know you, those who will then to like you and those people to take it even further and trust you. For people to trust you, you need consistency, without it you’ll confuse your audience and they won’t grow to trust you over time.

This is why being authentically you with your personal brand is a great idea, because you just can’t fake you and you’ll make it easier to be more consistent.
