When you start thinking about personal branding, it can be difficult to think about what content to post, especially if you don’t have a content creation background. The more content you start creating, the easier it gets and the more ideas you’ll have. To get you started we’ll dive into some ideas with you.

Share an introduction post:

If you’re new to creating content, or if you’ve been doing it for a while, there’s always room for an introduction post. If you haven’t posted anything before, this will be great for your audience to read so they can start to get to know who you are and what to expect to see from your channel. If you’ve been posting for a while you may have picked up new audience members, or a new role, or a new passion project you’re working on that your current audience doesn’t know about, you can share an update in your introduction post.

Make sure you share a current photo of yourself alongside your introduction post. You want to give your audience the maximum chance to get to know you, and an image or even a video (if you’re feeling brave enough), will give them more of a 360 degree view of you.

Share a post about what you do:

Our work/business is often a huge part of our lives, even with personal branding you want to be weaving in some information about what you do and how you can help people with what you do through your content. This is also a great opportunity to share why you’re passionate about what you do, why you’ve started what you’ve started if you run a business.

You can even share your journey of how you got into your role/business through storytelling. People love to hear people’s stories and we love to support others. You never know what connections you’ll make, or what opportunities you’ll attract professionally when you share about what you do.

Share something you’ve learned or found out from a conversation you’ve had recently:

We’re constantly picking up potential content ideas throughout our lives, we have conversations with other humans every single day. Whats something you’ve had a conversation to a colleague or friend about this week, what’s something you’ve learned from that conversation that others may not already know?

We have the power to impart our knowledge onto others, and we don’t have to be the best at what we do to do that. We all know something that others may not. We could inspire, educate or help empower others through conversations we’ve had. We might even be able to spread a little joy by injecting some humour into their lives, it doesn’t always have to be the greatest wisdom that we share. Whats the last thing you and a friend talked about that had you in fits of laughter? Share that!

What you plan in gets done:

It’s easy to sit there staring at a blank computer with absolutely no inspiration of what content to share, and in all honesty you won’t always be full of inspiration, it comes and goes. When you feel yourself have a moment of inspiration, or a quiet hour, create a rough content plan. Write some ideas down that you can then refer back to later on. You could even create the content then and there and schedule it in for a later date.

If you rely on creating content as you go, you will often find that it gets left off your most urgent tasks and it gets missed.

Be consistent:

It’s more important with personal branding to have a consistent presence on social media, to be reliable and the face your audience sees regularly. This doesn’t mean you have to post 5 times a day every day for the rest of your life! In fact, most people who aren’t consistent with posting content, aren’t because they hit overwhelm from posting too much.

Everyone has different availability and time they can commit to creating and posting content. If you cannot commit to posting every day, then don’t try to do that, try to post 3 times a week instead. You could even set aside an hour on a Monday afternoon where you schedule in those 3 pieces of content over that week so you don’t forget to do it.

Being consistent 3 times a week (or whatever amount doesn’t overwhelm you) will be easy for you to maintain and therefore you will stick to it. Your audience will start to watch out for your consistent posts and to look out for them and engage on them more.
