If You’re Sleeping on LinkedIn, You’re Sleeping on Potential Opportunities

There’s something wild happening on LinkedIn right now, millions of professionals are on the platform, but barely anyone is using it properly. People are missing out on so many opportunities that could be in their network by not using the platform.

Every day I go on there to help extend my own personal brands network. I click on My Network, I scroll through all the fabulous faces on there looking for people I already know or people who I think are super interesting. I click on their face to check out their profile, barely anything on there, jobs not up to date, contact info non-existent, bio that sounds like you are a nuclear physicist but tells me absolutely nothing about what they do and how you help people. Then I scroll down to the About section, oh man, their CV, talking about them and their achievements in the 3rd person.

The result, I have nothing to speak to them about, no opportunity to build and real connection with them. Even when there is something i can send them a message to start a conversation about, I get crickets back. They don’t even go on the platform to accept my connection request (and how many other requests), let alone reply to a message when they finally do.

Only 1% of LinkedIn users are actually creating content.

Most profiles? Are half-baked/20 years out of date.

Connection requests and DMs? Ghost town.

That’s a whole lot of missed magic!

Whether you’re building a business, looking for new career doors to open, or just want to be seen as the real you in your industry, LinkedIn isn’t just another social media platform. It’s your digital handshake. Your personal pitch. Your networking playground.

And most people are treating it like a dusty CV from 2017 🙃 Has to be said.

Let’s talk about what you’re missing…

If your profile is blank, outdated, or barely says what you do (let alone who you are), you’re invisible. You’re not showing up in search. You’re not attracting opportunity. And you’re definitely not building relationships that could change the game for you. You’re keeping the doors to your future fully closed off from the professional world. When you need those doors opened, you’re already on the back foot.

And when you’re not posting content? You’re not building trust. You’re not sharing your perspective. You’re not staying top-of-mind. You’re on the platform, but you might as well not be, you’re not getting seen by anyone.

In short: you’re not making the most of the only platform built for professional growth and human connection.

It’s time to flip the switch.

LinkedIn isn’t just for job-hunting. It’s for:

  • Business opportunities
  • Speaking gigs
  • Podcast invites
  • Brand collaborations
  • Mentorship
  • Investment
  • And yep, incredible new friendships too

It’s your reputation builder. Your credibility companion. Your digital stage. But only if you actually show up.

Here’s your 3-step LinkedIn power move:

  1. Audit your profile. Look at it like a stranger would. Would you message you? Would you know what you do in 3 seconds? If not, it’s time for a profile glow up (no skincare or greens juices needed for this one, it’s a digital glow up).
  2. Start conversations. Reply to posts. Send thoughtful DMs. Reconnect with that person you met at the event 6 months ago. Your net worth? Deeply tied to your network. Get contributing to your connections and build those relationships that will connect you for the long term.
  3. Create content (even imperfectly). Share what you’re learning, what you care about, what makes you different. You don’t need to be an “expert”, just be real. Even two posts a week would put you miles ahead of others who aren’t showing up at all, and consistently over time those two posts will gain you attention.

Because here’s the thing: Your message has power. Let’s use it:

Imagine what could open up for you if just one right person saw your post.

Or if your dream client ended up in your inbox.

Or if someone recommended you for that dream job you didn’t even know existed yet.

LinkedIn isn’t just a platform, it’s your opportunity engine.

But only if you treat it like one.
