Could a Podcast Be Your Secret Weapon for Personal Branding?

A year ago, Toby approached me with an idea born from real client work he’d been doing. As a branding photographer, he captures jaw dropping visuals, but then? Many clients don’t know what to do with those images once the shoot is done.

That’s when he asked: β€œWhy don’t we create a podcast and dive into personal branding from both our perspectives?”

From his side, a podcast helps clients add storytelling, purpose, and action behind their visuals. It also helps him build up his own personal brand.

From my side? It was a no brainer. As a person running Quirq solo, I know that long‑form content (podcasts, videos, blog series) demands an upfront time investment. But once the engine’s running? It super charges your marketing. You build an ongoing library of content that can be repurposed: blog posts, social snippets, email copy, you name it. It made so much sense to me, I can’t do everything myself, but collaborating like this, we could achieve loads!

The other reason I said yes was because nothing hides behind longer form content, especially video content. When you record a podcast or longer video, your voice, vibe, and values shine through. To the outside world looking in, you become real, vulnerable, unfiltered. That’s how human first personal branding sticks, and builds trust fast.

So could longer form content work for you?

Short answer: absolutely, if you do it strategically. But as always with any marketing advice, weigh it up for yourself, we’re all different, we all have different strengths, weaknesses, goals etc, what works for one, doesn’t always work for all.

Ask yourself:

  • Do you have stories, experience or a point of view to share?
  • Can you set aside a chunk of time to record, edit or prep?
  • Are you open to seeing the real‑you show up, warts and all?
  • Could you collaborate with someone else to share the workload?
  • Can you commit to the time it takes to grow a podcast audience?

If so, a podcast or long form video series could be a scroll-stopping, trust building goldmine. But if your personal brand works best in bite-sized content, like daily visual impact or quick tips, don’t force it. Every long‑form asset should serve your personal brand, not bury it.

If you choose that long form is for you, then great, long‑form content is SEO catnip.

  • Each episode lets you target new keywords, which people are searching for.
  • Show notes can become blog content, more site visitors.
  • Transcriptions help Google index your entire conversation.

It’s not just about talking. It’s about discoverability, repurposeability, and creating an evergreen presence. It’s pretty great when you do it strategically.

Once an episode is done, you can spin it into:

  • Blog posts for your website
  • 30‑sec clips for social Reels or LinkedIn
  • Quotes or live‑read promos
  • Email newsletter content
  • SEO‑rich show notes

Essentially, one long‑form session can fuel months of scroll‑stopping material. And that frees you up to focus on what you actually want to do: coach, create, connect, not scramble for content every week.

Is a podcast or long‑form content right for your personal brand?

Yes, if you’ve got the stories, the time, and the drive to show your real self, and want to save time after creating content, not just in the moment.

But podcasting does take work and it is a long term game, you won’t see instant results from podcasting so you need to be capable of being in it for the foreseeable future till you see real results from it.

Personally for me, I’m going to keep going with the Brand You podcast. I think it’s been a great marketing tool for me to use and we’ve got a lot of great feedback from the podcast out in the public too.

Season 3 of the Brand You podcast drops this Thursday 3rd July, and we’ve got our first sponsor for the podcast to help cover some of the costs to podcast production that till now we’ve funded ourselves. It’s an exciting time for the Brand You podcast.
