It’s Called Personal Branding: But That Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Talk About Your Business

The wording “personal” branding can confuse a lot of people. Personal makes you think that all you can share is personal information or your personal life, which for some can put them off going down the personal brand route. People don’t want to share too much personal information, or things like their kids, their food etc.

But really all personal branding is, is your view of the world, shared in your voice, through your own stories.

Your business/work is a huge part of your life!

To not mention your business/work through your personal brand can be a huge missed opportunity.

In this week’s Brand You podcast, myself and Toby discussed this subject in more detail. We talked about what to share when personal branding, and what not to share. You can listen to the episode through the links below:

One of the main things that came up was the topic of generic corporate posts, which was in the not to share pile. Anything that was overtly salesy and would put up a resistance in people was on the not to share pile too.

The whole idea of sharing a personal brand is being more human and more authentic, honest and trustworthy. When you share your business/work in your own way, you break down the sales resistance barrier and get your messaging in front of people more easily and effortlessly.

You might notice it yourself. When you’re scrolling through social media, how many corporate graphic posts make you stop your scroll and read/watch? For me, and probably also yourself, it’s a lot less than posts that are humanised and share real people in them.

Real humans sharing their experiences through storytelling stops the sales resistance barrier from going up. Instead it intriguesΒ people, it unlocks our nosey human nature, and we end up diving into more posts shared by actual people over brands/businesses.

When you share your business/work yourself you bypass this sales resistance and you get your business messaging seen by more people. When you do it right.

Breaking down your business/work content into different forms, sharing different stories along the way and showcasing yourself and your team in any imagery used and not selling all the time in your personal brand content creates a great blend. You can also use the general rule of 3:1 – 3 non sales posts to any 1 post that does then sell or share some heavy business information.

If you’re not sharing personal branded content because you’re confused as to what you should/shouldn’tΒ share, then reach out to us at Quirq. Let’s work together and create a strategy and guidance for you, so you gain the clarity you need to create an incredible personal brand.
